The Australian Open 2021 will kick off from tomorrow but some players are breaking records even before that. World No.4 Daniil Medvedev is one such player who recently achieved a historic feat. What’s even more astonishing is the fact that he is only the fourth active player to accomplish this record.

Daniil Medvedev recently defeated Matteo Berrettini in the finals of the ATP Cup 2021. With the win, he also took his side Russia to their maiden victory at the tournament. However, it is not simply this which is intriguing but Medvedev has also registered his name in the history books after beating Berrettini.

He recently became the fourth active player after Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal to win 10 straight matches against the top 10 opponents.

Federer tops the list with 24 straight wins against the top 10 players that came between YEC 2003 and the Australian Open 2005. Djokovic is tied at the second position with 17 consecutive victories against the top 10 opponents that came during the 2015-16 season.

Rafa too had such a dominating period from the 2005 Monte Carlo Open to the French Open 2006 when he won 13 back-to-back matches against the top 10 players.

It is surely a record that Medvedev will feel proud of. He is the only player other than the ‘Big Three’ to appear on the list, that too, at a time when the three of them are still dominating the sport.

Medvedev will begin his Australian Open 2021 campaign against Vasek Pospisil on February 9. With his current form, he’ll definitely start as one of the favorites at the Grand Slam. Will Medvedev be able to win his maiden Grand Slam title in Melbourne this year?
