Daniil Medvedev has had the best season of his career so far. It is surely reflected in the ATP 2021 rankings as well, with Medvedev’s name on number 2. Having finished last year as world No. 4, Medvedev’s efforts this year ensured he climbed up the rankings.
This accomplishment puts Daniil Medvedev in some elite company. He is the first Russian this century to finish in Top 2 since Marat Safin in the year 2000. With Yevgeny Kafelnikov having been world No. 2 in 1999, Medvedev is the third Russian overall to achieve this feat.

With four titles to his name this year, Medvedev looks all set to go forward with this momentum and climb higher.
Daniil Medvedev has had a stellar season
The 2021 season saw Daniil Medvedev rising up through the ranks, taking his performances to the next level. From world No. 4 last year to World No. 2 at the end of 2021, Medvedev bagged plenty of titles along the way.

Medvedev won his first Grand Slam title this year at the US Open against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. The Russian announced his arrival as the next big player emphatically in New York. Furthermore, he denied the Serbian his chance at the elusive Calendar Grand Slam.

Unstoppable in his rise to the top, the Russian also won major titles at the ATP Masters 1000 Canada, and the Mallorca and Marseille Open as well.

Finishing as the world No. 2 in the ATP rankings is only the beginning for the Russian. The upcoming season will most certainly see him and rival Novak Djokovic battling for the biggest trophies.
In 2022, Daniil Medvedev will surely be looking to add more Slams to his tally. Consequently, Djokovic, the defending champion for three of them, will surely need to be on his best game to remain on top.
