

Former American tennis star, Andy Roddick, was one of the finest of his generation. The American is one of the most active members of the tennis community on social media. While Roddick was a great player on his own, Roger Federer largely dominated the era he played in. While Roddick retired in 2012, Federer continued to pile records and recently declared his retirement.

Roddick has a poor record against Federer. As the Swiss maestro retires from tennis, Roddick gave his tribute to the 41-year-old in a unique way. He took a dig at himself. However, the fans blew his comments out of the proportion. Roddick came back with an explanation later.
Andy Roddick takes a dig at himself
Andy Roddick definitely had great potential as a tennis player. However, the American ended up with only 1 Grand Slam title. Every time he did well, there was a man who stood between him and the title. It was none other than Roger Federer. Especially in the Wimbledon Championships, where Roddick lost three finals to Federer. Taking a dig at himself, Roddick tweeted, “Also, seems like a good time to start training for Wimby.”

While the American was only trolling himself that, now when Federer won’t be there, he has a good chance of winning Wimbledon. However, the fans of Novak Djokovic were quick to remind him that Nole is there with four title streak.
This turned up into a war of words between Federer and Djokovic fans. At the end Roddick came up with a reply clarifying the purpose of his tweet. “I couldn’t possibly have been joking or even making fun of myself ……”

Roddick vs Federer head to head
Both Federer and Roddick peaked at the same time. The two faced each other for the first time in 2001. Federer started with a win against the American at Basel. Further, in the next two years, they met again thrice and Federer took all three of the matches. Roddick won his first match against Federer in his fifth attempt.

After that, Federer went on an 11-match winning streak against Roddick, which the American broke in 2008. Moving forward, Federer continued to dominate Roddick and won the next six matches as well. The only saving grace in the rivalry for Roddick is that he managed to win the last match he played against Federer.
