Laslo Djere had a 6-4, 6-4 lead until the third, or what he would have thought was the decisive set of his match against Djokovic. However, the 36-year-old, with his mental fortitude and on-court prowess, pulled off a phenomenal comeback and ended up prevailing in the five-set thriller 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.
Later, in his post-match press conference, the Serb was asked if his recent victory had further boosted his confidence levels. Djokovic answered, while showcasing his champion’s mentality, as he opened up about his preference of always winning a match.
In the process, the current world No. 2 also issued some bold assertions for his opponents. He said, “I think the message is sent to the rest of the field that obviously I’m still able to play five sets deep at night. Coming from two sets down always sends a strong message to the future opponents.”
After his thrilling third-round encounter, another big challenge awaits the ‘Djoker’ at the hard court major.
