Daniil’s coach on his performance on clay court
Gilles Cervara talked about his recovery and how quickly the player had recovered. Daniil was showing improvements quickly after the surgery and has been practicing arduously. Gilles updated about Daniil’s developments, both physically as well as mentally. The coach said, “He’s calmer this year. It’s easier to train him.” Furthermore, he added, “Daniil is aware that returning to clay forces him to be more tolerant. He releases a bit of pressure, therefore, even if he knows that this surface makes him less efficient against certain types of players.”
Motive is to perform at Roland Garros
The Russian player has always been clear with his discontent towards the clay court. The coach himself accepts the fact that there are other players who have an advantage over him on clay. But the goal is to do at least as much as last year when Daniil Medvedev had reached the quarter-finals without losing a set. Cervara confirmed the motive behind Geneva. He said, “Roland-Garros is an objective in itself. We are going to Geneva to have as many benchmarks as possible, given the situation. The idea is to do at least as well as last year.”
