Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner just continue to impress this season, don’t they? Arguably two of the best players in the world right now, the duo produced another thrilling performance in an entertaining China Open clash. In the end, it was the Spaniard who had the last laugh, winning the final set tiebreaker to clinch the ATP 500 title in Beijing. Despite their intriguing rivalry, Alcaraz and Sinner share a mutual respect for each other. Alcaraz showed off his humble nature with an emotional confession about Sinner and his team.
The Italian star is going through uncertain times after WADA reopened his doping case. The World Anti-Doping Agency found the ITIA’s decision incorrect and raised the matter to the CAS, asking for a ban of at 1-2 years for Sinner, after he tested positive for Clostebol. Amid this doping fiasco, Alcaraz had a motivational message for Sinner after their China Open clash.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, he said, “I’d like to start with Jannik. What can I say about you. The year you’re having is unbelievable. You deserve it.. with your team and the work you put every day. I’ve seen you working when I come to the club. You’re really really humble. That makes you an even better success. During your whole career and this year, I’d like to congratulate you and your team for great work and great tennis you’re playing. For me, even more important, you and the people around you are great people.. I respect you a lot as a player but even more as a person.”

Carlos Alcaraz slams WADA ruling in the doping case of Jannik Sinner
Time and again, Alcaraz has been quizzed about the impact of Sinner this season and the void that he will leave if he faces a ban after WADA’s statement. The top doping agency appealed to the CAS and wants Sinner to be banned for a year or two. However, there are many cases pending with the CAS and an immediate ruling in the Italian star’s case looks unlikely. Amid these uncertain times, Sinner found the support of his rival, Alcaraz.

Not only Alcaraz but also other tennis bigwigs have spoken in favor of Sinner. Earlier today, Brad Gilbert voiced his opinion and hoped that the case would end with a favorable verdict for the World No. 1. “After 20 years of amazing matches from the big 3 didn’t think it was possible this soon to have another amazing rivalry, Escape from Alcaraz vs Sin City 🌆 is the gold standard in tennis here’s to the next 10 years of these 2 with tons of great matches, hopefully, Wada doesn’t mess it up,” Gilbert said.
However, only time will tell if Sinner is let off again. The justification that ITIA considered good enough might not be enough for Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). If Sinner indeed gets banned, what do you think would be the consequence of Sinner’s absence to the tennis world? Let us know your views in the comments below.
