The 2022 Wimbledon Championships winner, Novak Djokovic, has probably played his last Grand Slam tournament of the year. He’s still unable to travel to the US due to his non-vaccination status. Hence, he will not participate in the US Open, which will take place at the end of August.

However, many politicians are rallying behind the Serb and putting pressure on Joe Biden, the current President of the USA, to lift the mandate that prevents unvaccinated people from entering the country.

Politicians are showing their support for Novak Djokovic

Former US Acting Director of National Intelligence, Richard Grenell tweeted, Let @DjokerNole play in the @usopen! The U.S. Open cheapens itself when it bans one of the best players in the world.

Notably, Grenell was the former colleague of Donald Trump during his tenure as the President of the United States. Meanwhile, the current Senator of Wisconsin, Ron Johnson, agreed with Grenell as he took to Twitter and said, @RichardGrenell is 100% correct on this. Has anyone noticed the vaccines are NOT preventing infection and transmission? The mandates are idiotic, pointless, and destructive. How many jabs did Fauci get? Banning Djokovic would be equally stupid.

Previously, two other politicians, Drew Springer and Rand Paul, criticized the current rule. According to Paul, people with natural immunity should get entry to the US. Whereas Springer criticized Biden for letting millions of unvaccinated people in the country apart from Djokovic.

Djokovic is unwilling to take the vaccine to take part in the US Open 2022

Meanwhile, the current ATP world no.7, Djokovic has clarified that he is not willing to take the vaccine just to participate in Grand Slam tournaments. Earlier, he was not supposed to take part in the French Open and Wimbledon. However, the rule change by both governments cleared the path for Djokovic’s participation in both Grand Slam events.

Earlier, he went through a torrid time in Australia during the Australian Open, as he had to leave the country before the start of the tournament after losing his court case. Recently, the Australian government also changed that prevented the Serb from entering the country. So, if Djokovic misses the US Open this year, he will most likely play at the Australian Open 2023. Notably, the Serb has won a record 9 Australian Open titles.

With Djokovic probably out of the picture, can Rafael Nadal increase his Grand Slam tally in the upcoming US Open? Let us know in the comments.
