World No.1 Novak Djokovic couldn’t accomplish his Calendar Slam at the US Open 2021. Daniil Medvedev defeated him in straight sets there and thus, became the first player since Stan Wawrinka to defeat a member of the ‘Big Three’ in a Grand Slam final.
Even though Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev have won four titles each in 2021 so far, they are not the ones who have accomplished the most number of trophies this year. There is a player who recently won his fifth title on the ATP Tour this season.

Casper Ruud surpasses Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev
Ruud recently emerged as the winner of the San Diego Open 2021. The Norwegian player defeated Cameron Norrie in straight sets in the finals to clinch the title. Interestingly, he even bageled the British player in the first set and lost just a single set in the whole tournament.

Surprisingly, this is Ruud’s fifth title of the season, which makes him move ahead of Djokovic and Medvedev. Courtesy of his recent success on the tour, he is currently World No.10 player in the ATP rankings.

The World No.10 player began his incredible run at the Geneva Open 2021 where he beat Denis Shapovalov in the finals to achieve his first title in 2021. Later, he won the Swedish Open, the Swiss Open, the Austrian Open 2021 titles back-to-back and became completely unstoppable.
