Carlos Alcaraz is having a breakthrough 2022 season. After a solid finish last year that saw him reach the quarterfinals of the US Open, the Spanish tennis sensation has carried his good form into this season. The 19-year-old has already won four titles this season. This includes two ATP Masters 1000 titles in Miami and Madrid.

Further, in the recently concluded French Open, he made it to the quarterfinals before losing out to Alexander Zverev in the last-eight clash. His consistent performance across the tournaments this year has enabled him to rise to the seventh spot on the ATP rankings chart. Recently, he had some exciting news for his fans.

Carlos Alcaraz to participate at the Swiss Indoors in Basel

The 19-year-old joined Roger Federer in confirming his participation in the hard-court tournament in Basel, Switzerland. Further, Alcaraz will play his first game in St. Jakobshalle at prime time on Monday, 24 October 2022.

Earlier this year, Federer’s agent Tony Godsick confirmed the Swiss maestro’s participation at the Swiss Indoors. This will be Federer’s second tournament since his comeback after the Laver Cup.

Federer has missed out on tournaments over the last year due to a knee injury. He last played at the Wimbledon Championships in July 2021 and has been out of action since. The Swiss Indoors might provide an exciting matchup between Federer and Alcaraz in the battle of the generations.

Federer wants Alcaraz to join him and Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup

Earlier this season, Federer, whose management company is one of the partners of the Laver Cup, wanted Alcaraz to join him and Nadal in the Team Europe for the Laver Cup. Talking on this subject, Tony Godsick said, “I know some discussions have taken place. The indication I’ve heard from the team is that he’s excited about learning more. I’m optimistic that he’s going to play.”
