What a week it has been for Spanish tennis sensation, Carlos Alcaraz. Playing in his maiden ATP World Tour Finals, Alcaraz didn’t have a memorable start as he lost his opening match against Alexander Zverev. As a result, the Spaniard needed to win his next two matches to seal a semifinal berth in the tournament. And he didn’t disappoint. Alcaraz is through to the last four after a comprehensive victory over Daniil Medvedev earlier today. Following the win, he revealed his superstitious activities before the big semifinal match.

Alcaraz faces World Number 1, Novak Djokovic, in a blockbuster semifinal contest. Here’s how the Spaniard is preparing for that match.

Carlos Alcaraz opens up about his pre-match superstitious side

After his victory over Medvedev, Alcaraz was involved in a post-match press conference. During that interview, he was asked about the special or superstitious routine that he undergoes to prepare for big matches like the upcoming semifinal of the ATP World Tour Finals.

Replying to this question, he said, “Well, I usually do the same routine before the match. Probably repeat some things that I’m doing. If I win, I would like to repeat a few things.”

Further, Alcaraz went on to add, “Probably same restaurant, same persons, let’s say same seats. I don’t know. I do the same routine. Facing Novak, probably I will do some specific things mentally to be 100% ready to face the match tomorrow.”

Alcaraz and Djokovic have already been involved in some fiesty matches earlier this year. For example, Alcaraz got the better of the Serb at the Wimbledon Championships while Djokovic took his revenge at the Cincinnati Masters. Further, the Spaniard also once talked about imbibing the mentality of Djokovic.

Alcaraz reaffirms Djokovic’s mental strength

During an interview earlier this year, Alcaraz was asked how often he thinks about Djokovic, who is becoming one of his greatest rivals. The question brought a smile to the 20-year-old’s face as he said, “Hahaha, Almost in every practice (chuckles), I’m not going to lie.”

Further, Alcaraz also said that he imbibed Djokovic’s mentality at the practice sessions. Alcaraz added, “I practice with a goal. I go to the tournaments with a goal. It’s.. trying to end the year as a World No.1. Ah.. Novak Djokovic is around my mind almost in every practice.”
