While Carlos Alcaraz may be one of the biggest names in tennis currently, things haven’t started well for him this season. The 20-year-old bowed out of the recently-concluded Australian Open in the quarterfinals, losing against Alexander Zverev in the last-eight clash. However, the two are soon to become teammates. Recently, it was announced that Carlos Alcaraz will be making his Laver Cup debut this year.
It comes at a time when Team Europe has suffered back-to-back defeats in the tournament. As a result, they need some firepower in their tank, and what better than to have Alcaraz? Let’s find out what he had to say about this opportunity.

While it would be Alcaraz’s first appearance at the Laver Cup, he will be joined by two experienced stars in the form of Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev, who’ll team up for Team Europe. Recently, Alcaraz appeared in an interview where he talked about playing at the Laver Cup.
The Spaniard said, “When the teammates become coaches.. it’s really great to see that part, playing together on the same team, sharing great moments off the court that probably normally we can’t.. it’s great.”
With Alcaraz’s Laver Cup decision, he has also fulfilled the wish of the Swiss maestro, Roger Federer. Last year, the 20-time Grand Slam champion was impressed with the Spanish sensation’s rise. As a result, Federer wanted to see Alcaraz play in the Laver Cup. While he couldn’t do it last year, Alcaraz has honored Federer’s request, thereby fulfilling his wish.
