Over the years, quite a few players have pioneered tennis. Although it seems like a new-age player is motivated more than ever to be the best, the world’s No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has outed his desire to hold the No. 1 spot, not once but many times since he turned pro. For him to attain this, he will have to beat the current world’s greatest, Novak Djokovic.

He recently talked about this with TennisTV. The 20-year-old has already won two Grand Slams. However, winning the top spot is not as easy, mainly because Djokovic is still going strong and is not showing any signs of being careless.

Ever since Noel has claimed the top spot, many players have tried snatching it away. Although the closest to achieving this goal was none other than Alcaraz, even if it was only for a short period of time. In his conversation with TennisTV, he laid bare his thoughts about the situation.

Alcaraz starts by highlighting his primary goal. He says, “My goal is to end the year as number one.” But in order to achieve that, he knows what he has to do. He says, “I think to be able to do that, I have to be better than Novak in these two tournaments.” Although what caught everyone’s attention was his next few words, they precisely showed the level of his motivation. As per him, “For me, I am thinking that if Novak plays semi-final, I want to play the finals. If Novak plays final, I will try to win the tournament. That’s my goal.” That is quite optimistic, but he also possesses the skills to make it come true.

However, at the end of this statement, Alcaraz dished out quite a humble approach. He said, “But as I said, my goal in every tournament is to play my best and try to win.” But it wouldn’t be as easy as it sounds.

Hurdles that Alcaraz might have to face

Alcaraz’s relentless pursuit of the world No. 1 ranking is not without its challenges. While his determination to outshine Djokovic is evident, the path to tennis supremacy is fraught with many obstacles and uncertainties.

Djokovic’s enduring dominance and consistent excellence on the court pose a significant hurdle. Moreover, the unpredictability of the sport itself adds an element of suspense. If everything goes well, the two can have an engaging match at the Paris Masters.
