Carlos Alcaraz Opens Up on a ‘Complicated’ Reality as 22YO Italian Rival Continues to Strive for Perfection

Carlos Alcaraz is one of the biggest stars among the next generation and the current scene of tennis. The 20-year-old Spaniard has many rivals on the court, but there is no bad blood between them. Jannik Sinner is one of the biggest rivals of Alcaraz. They have faced each other many times since 2021, and their matches are a great show of tennis. Despite them butting heads so often, Alcaraz has nothing but respect for him. Alcaraz even came out and praised his abilities.

Carlos Alcaraz is not the only ATP number 1 who has praised the 22-year-old Italian player. Novak Djokovic also called him a great player and hailed him as one of the best of his generation. 

Carlos Alcaraz showers praise on Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have faced each other a total of seven times since 2021. They have clashed on all surfaces, and Sinner leads the head-to-head with four victories. He gained the lead after their China Open bout. Despite losing more matches against him, Alcaraz has positive feelings for one of his greatest rivals. In a recent interview with Italian newspaper La Stampa, the Spanish star complimented his technique. 

“Winning a point against Sinner today is very complicated. He has an incredible forehand and backhand, all his shots are almost perfect. He is one of the most complete tennis players around.” Additionally, Alcaraz went on to compliment Sinner on his skills in some other sport.

Alcaraz said, “But at golf I’m sure I can beat him, even if we haven’t met yet!” From the interview, one could see that Alcaraz had more confidence in his golf abilities when going against Sinner. His commendation will probably prove to uplift Sinner’s day, as he had to withdraw from the Paris Masters, citing fatigue. However,  Alcaraz is not the only great player currently who has praised the Italian star’s abilities.

Novak Djokovic lauds Jannik Sinner as a leader of the next generation

After defeating Sinner in Wimbledon, Djokovic reflected on the Italian player’s skills and how he stood among the best players in the world. In the post-match presser, the 24-time grand slam champion said Sinner has proven why he’s one of the leaders of the next generation & one of the best players in the world without any doubt.

The 22-year-old star is receiving praise from every top star. With him currently ranking at 4, we might see big improvements in the future with more titles in his career. However, the question remains: will Jannik Sinner be able to claim a grand slam?
