Ahead of the ATP Finals, all eyes were on the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, two of the season’s most successful players. While the former is up and running, things haven’t gone the way Alcaraz would have liked. Keeping his performance on one side, the Spaniard was affected by cold in the lead-up to the tournament in Turin. As a result, he faced breathing difficulties and even had to wear a nasal strip to facilitate breathing. However, amid growing doubts about his further participation in the tournament, Alcaraz provided a major update for his fans.
Earlier today, Alcaraz had a brief practice session ahead of his match against Andrey Rublev. After his training session, a large crowd gathered to greet the Spanish sensation as he was about to leave the training facility. While carrying his kitbag on his shoulders, Alcaraz waved toward his fans and revealed, “See you, see you,” hinting that he is here to stay and will potentially be seen in action tomorrow.

Nonetheless, Alcaraz isn’t back to full fitness as of yet. Earlier today, his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero also provided a health update on Alcaraz, saying, “As soon as he moves a bit, he finds it hard to breathe. He has tightness in his chest. A bad time to fall ill.” Despite Juan Carlos Ferrero expressing uncertainty about Alcaraz’s participation, the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion assured fans about his presence on the court tomorrow.

However, it remains to be seen if there is any improvement in Alcaraz’s health tomorrow. Earlier today, he canceled his practice session just minutes after beginning it as he found it difficult to continue. While his positive update after the practice session is sure to relieve his fans, things looked bleak when he opened up about his health condition after his match against Casper Ruud.

He said, “Well, a few days before coming here, I got sick at home. And yeah, the days that I was practicing here, I was feeling okay. Not pretty good, but okay. I could play. I could feel that I can get into the rallies in the practice. Obviously, in the matches is totally different. But today I didn’t feel well. In this morning, I feel uncomfortable in the stomach. After long rallies today, I couldn’t feel well. I don’t want to, you know, say because I don’t want to sound like an excuse. But if I feel bad, I feel bad. It is what happened today.”
Nonetheless, fans would be relieved to have heard the positive update from Alcaraz about his participation in tomorrow’s match. If the smile on his face is anything to go by, we could see a resurgent Alcaraz go out all guns blazing to keep his semifinal hopes alive at the ATP Finals. It’ll be interesting to see if he can get the better of Andrey Rublev in tomorrow’s match.
