Carlos Alcaraz’s time at Madrid is finally over now. Coming into the Madrid Open as one of the hot favorites, he certainly looked strong to go right till the end and clinch the prestigious title. But, fate had some different plans in mind. His quarterfinal opponent Andrey Rublev played the match of his life against crowd favorite Alcaraz. In a match that went on to three sets, it was the Russian player who came out on top and defeated the Spanish sensation.
The final scoreline of the match was 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in favor of the Russian star. While the match did not end the way it would have been, what followed next were pure emotions from the Spanish star. When everyone was congratulating Rublev for his outstanding performances, Carlos Alcaraz could not seem to control his emotions and hid his face under a towel.
In a video shared on social media, it can be seen that Carlos Alcaraz hides his face under the towel and tries hard to control his emotions. Bowing out of the quarter-finals in front of homecrowd is something definitely Alcaraz would have not wanted given the level of game that he has shown.

Thus, in a match that Carlos Alcaraz came in with the hopes of winning, he had to settle for a loss. However, much credit for the loss will be given to the forearm injury that he is dealing with currently. Even after the post-match conference, he came ahead to talk about the injury and how he has planned to proceed further with this.
Carlos Alcaraz suffered a forearm injury during Monte Carlo that accompanied him to Madrid
This year has not been good for Carlos Alcaraz in terms of injuries sustained. Playing in the Rio Open, he suffered an injury in his ankle. However, it wasn’t for a long time. He came back and won the Indian Wells and made his way into the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
But, that’s when the trouble came into existence. Coming into the Monte Carlo Masters, he suffered an injury on his forearm during his regular practice sessions. This eventually forced him to withdraw from the tournament in Monaco. Not only this, he had to skip the Barcelona Open as well, owing to the same injury.
However, his quarter-final appearance at the Madrid Open is something he is proud of despite the injury concerns. Having set his sights on Rome Masters, he said that he and his team will be looking to work progressively on the injury and ensure that he comes back in the best of forms.

“I have to continue working to see if I can recover my normal right, without thinking so much about the forearm. The coming weeks will be key, in Rome I will continue playing with protection. The goal is to go there with the best sensations,” said Alcaraz in the post-match interview.
Interesting presser from Alcaraz.
Admits he still has to recover is normal forehand “without thinking about his arm”.
Says he and his team never thought he would reach the QFs here and a loss vs. Rublev in the QFs is a good result given the circumstances… https://t.co/5U5zLqJX1I
