The future of tennis looks in safe hands! Jannik Sinner recently clinched his second Grand Slam title with a win against Taylor Fritz in the finals of the 2024 US Open. For the first time since 2002, none of the ‘Big Three’ in tennis—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, or Novak Djokovic—has won a Grand Slam title in a calendar year. Carlos Alcaraz claimed victory at both the French Open and Wimbledon, while Jannik Sinner completed his own double triumph on the hard courts. Remarkably, this is also the first time since 1993 that all four major tournaments have been won by players aged 23 and under in the Open Era. Alcaraz congratulated Sinner on his emphatic triumph, but his fans were less than thrilled with the Spaniard’s congratulatory message!

They have come out in numbers to portray their dislike of Alcaraz being too friendly with his fiercest rival. It all started with a post in which Alcaraz wrote, “Congratulations @janniksin! You deserve it! Enjoy the moment!” With all the things that Sinner had to go through over the last few months, his performance at the US Open is really praiseworthy. However, fans think, Sinner wouldn’t have done the same if Alcaraz was in his position.

Both of them have faced each other nine times in their careers and currently, Carlos Alcaraz leads the H2H by a 5-4 margin. That’s how close the margins in between the two. Neither of them wants to gift even an inch of space to each other when they’re on the courts. Now, perhaps fans want them to follow the same off-the-court.

In August 2023, during an interview, Jannik Sinner said he doesn’t look at Alcaraz as his rival and he just tries to focus on himself. “I don’t send him any messages, I continue on my way. If I look too much at others, I don’t focus on myself. And instead, I have to be good at leaving out any extra thoughts.” Is this one of the reasons why “jealous”, “selfish” and a few more such words get attached to Sinner when we talk about their relationship on and off the court? Well, we don’t know but fans are clearly not happy with what they claim is a ‘one-sided’ story!

Tennis fans slamming Carlos Alcaraz for congratulating Jannik Sinner on his incredible triumph at the US Open

Jannik Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill once spoke about the bond between these two tennis stars. He said, “Their friendship is real. They both respect each other and like each other and you’ll see that on the court regardless of who wins.” However, after seeing Alcaraz’s congratulatory message, a fan wrote, “Carlos I love and support you in ups and downs. But I need you to realize this man don’t f— with you at all. He is jealous of you and what you have accomplished way before him. Please I beg on behalf ur fans realize this is not fedal he is a (snake). Please protect ur peace and energy and this isn’t it.”

Cahill even revealed that Sinner is always keen to watch Alcaraz’s matches because in a way he was “the trailblazer after winning a Grand Slam first.” Even both the players have time and again showcased their respect for each other through their speeches. For example, Carlos Alcaraz once admitted, “I’m not surprised because he’s doing well as he is a hard worker. If I want to match his level, I have to work hard because right now he’s the one who’s better.“

However, seeing the Spaniard praise Sinner some of the fans added, “Disgraceful, Carlos. What the f*ck are you doing? He wil NEVER congratulate you.” However, do you know shortly after his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the SF of the 2024 French Open, Jannik Sinner was heard saying, “I am very happy for him. He makes me a better tennis player… every time when I play against him and I lose I know what I have to improve.” Like this, we’ve seen mutual respect on multiple occasions in the past.

Carlos Alcaraz has won three titles this season, whereas Sinner has won six titles as of now. That’s literally double the number of the Spaniard! Speaking about their dominance in the tennis world in the 2024 season, Jannik Sinner said, “It’s nice to see for the sport to see some new champions. The new generation, we push each other, trying to improve.“ However, Alcaraz’s fans want the Spaniard to win all the titles. “Yeah sure Sinner is good and congrats to him. But I want only you to win every Slam Carlitos. I understand you win some, you lose some and I admire your sportsmanship.. but the heart wants what it wants. Vamos!” added a few.

Clearly, the fans want Alcaraz to win those titles instead of congratulating someone else like Sinner. Some of them wrote, “Pls have some self-respect. This dude never wishes u and said u r not his frnd.” Although, time and again Alcaraz has admitted that he’s “grateful” to have someone as competitive as Jannik Sinner on the Tour, still fans want him to maintain a bit of distance in these types of situations.

Some of them even went a little further and reminded others of the controversial doping saga surrounding Sinner.
