Recently, in a candid interview with the Spanish media outlet, the two-time Grand Slam champion coach talked about how long the 2023 season has been for the young Spaniard. Not only that, he also outlined how there are a lot of areas on which Carlos Alcaraz has to work that will make him strong against tennis giants like Novak Djokovic.

He stated, “At the tennis level, in this type of surface, we still lack a little, and at the mental level, the fact of facing knowing that you are going to have a very hard match, you have to be a little better prepared. Novak, in that aspect, has a lot of advantage for us.” Further, also highlighted how facing the 24-time Grand Slam champion can play a huge role in Carlos Alcaraz’s learning, as playing at such high levels is not easy.

Along with that, he also mentioned how even after having a good season overall, by the end of the year, things went a little down, as it’s a player’s mental fatigue that has played a crucial role.

The 43-year-old Spanish coach added, “You have to work everything, but you have to get used to the fact that if you play at such a high level, every week you have the requirement to win, to play against the best and that requirement, sometimes, takes you to the limit of mental fatigue, which is what has happened at the end of the season.”
