Behind every tennis great is a guiding coach, and Carlos Alcaraz is no exception. Interestingly, Carlos Alcaraz and his 5-year-old coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, have already resulted in massive achievements. It includes 16 ATP Tour wins, 4 Grand Slam titles, 5 Masters 1000 crowns, and a historic rise to World No. 1. Alcaraz, who is not in the best of forms at the moment after early eliminations from the ATP Finals and the US Open is counting on his coach. Can this golden era last forever? Antonio Martínez Cascales, his co-coach, offered his perspective.
The co-coach of Carlos Alcaraz and mentor of Juan Carlos Ferrero, was asked, ”Just like you were with JC all your life, do you see JC all his life with Carlitos?” He suggested that the bond between Ferrero and Alcaraz, built in 2019, was similar to his relationship with Ferrero during his playing days. “It’s hard to say. Both have said they would like to. In an interview, Carlos said he would like to have a relationship with JC like JC had with me,” Cascales said. While he confirmed the possibility of a long-term prospect, he also talked about the challenges of maintaining such a partnership.
“There are also ups and downs, because when you have such a strong relationship on a day-to-day basis, this happens. I would like that to happen, but it depends on many things. The environment, the results…” said Cascales. Cascales, however, highlighted one thing that he sees as very commendable between the two.

“The main thing is that JC continues to see Carlos as he did on the first day. That even though he grows, he remains the same as the first time he met him,” he concluded. Carlos Alcaraz also suggested that his coach is a very serious guy when it comes to their professional work. But, off the court, he is a very chill and funny guy. “But I think that is why I am here today, that is why I have grown very quickly, because if he were not so strict I might have gone crazy,” said Alcaraz.
While the two have been enjoying massive success, Alcaraz opened up on how sometimes things go either way between the two.
