The 20 times Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is currently participating in the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. He will soon lock horns with the Australian tennis ace Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the tournament. However, with the two most outspoken tennis aces in the finals of the biggest grass-based event, the 2014 Roger Cup incident comes to mind.

Both Kyrgios and Djokovic are famous for expressing their problems, regardless of what others perceive. One of the most interesting examples dates back to the year 2014. When Djokovic complained approached the referee with a very interesting issue.

A weird distraction

Djokovic, while playing against the French tennis professional Jeremy Chardy, complained about the smell of cannabis. After winning the first set, he went to the umpire’s chair and?said,?“Someone is smoking weed. I can smell it, and I’m getting dizzy. Somebody is getting high. Can you smell it? The whole place smells of it.”

Even so, the Serb managed to perform well and took a straight-set victory of 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals of the ATP 1000 event. Following that, he addressed the press and confessed.?“I can’t believe how bad it was. “Somebody is probably on the seventh sky somewhere.”

Thereafter, Djokovic claimed that it wasn’t the first time he came across that smell and said, “First in the doubles match, today again. Somebody’s really enjoying his life around the tennis court.”?

The former World No.1 and Wimbledon’s defending champion will square off with Nick Kyrgios in the centre court of London. While Djokovic will by eyeing his fourth consecutive title, the Aussie will look forward to his first ever Grand Slam trophy in the coming match.

Further, speaking about their?head-to-head records they have met twice earlier. First, they clashed in 2017 on the hard courts of Acapulco for a seat in the semifinals. There, the 27-year-old outclassed the six-time Wimbledon champion in straight sets of 7-6 (9) and 7-5.

Then in the same season, they locked horns for advancing to the quarterfinals of the Indian wells where, like Acapulco,?Kyrgios?took down the Serbian legend in straight sets of 6-4, 7-6 (3). Though this will be their first face-off on the grass. And considering Djokovic’s former records, it is going to be a tough feat for Kyrgios.
