Spanish tennis sensation, Carlos Alcaraz, has had a season to cherish this year. Despite missing out on the Australian Open earlier this year, he came back strongly to be at his best. Consistent performances gradually bore fruit as he clinched his maiden Wimbledon title. Subsequently, he also achieved the top spot on the ATP rankings chart. As a result, he caught the tennis world’s attention with his displays. Even the Swiss maestro, Roger Federer, heaped praise on the young Spaniard.

Carlos Alcaraz’s rise coincided with the retirement of Roger Federer. Hence, the two never played against each other. Nonetheless, Federer had a wish for Alcaraz which the Spaniard fulfilled with a wonderful update.

Last year, Roger Federer was amazed to see the rise of Alcaraz. As a result, he wanted to see the Spanish sensation play at the Laver Cup. The Swiss maestro’s management company organizes the prestigious tournament and is one of the partners of the event. Although Alcaraz wasn’t able to participate in last year’s Laver Cup, he hasn’t disappointed Federer and honored his request.

Earlier today, it was announced that Alcaraz will make his debut for Team Europe at next year?s Laver Cup, Berlin from September 20-22, 2024. The team is in dire need of inspiration after suffering back-to-back defeats and Alcaraz’s presence will be a huge boost for them, given that he’s at the top of his game.

 

Additionally, the Swiss maestro will be extra delighted to hear Alcaraz playing at the Laver Cup. While his one wish has come true, there was another wish from Federer to play against Alcaraz. So will he make a comeback at the Laver Cup? Let’s find out.

While the 20-time Grand Slam champion has been in awe of Alcaraz’s performances, he once revealed his desire to play against the Spaniard. Roger Federer hasn’t played against Alcaraz ever and many fans have been guessing if he will return from his retirement to fulfil his wish.

However, the Swiss maestro has maintained that he doesn’t have a future in tennis, including coaching responsibility. The only dream he has on this front is to captain Team Europe at the Laver Cup. While we may not see Federer playing against Alcaraz, he could well be his captain if Federer decides to take up that responsibility.
