The most-awaited clash of 2023 Paris Masters between Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune has been nothing short of box office. A repeat of last year’s final with two of the most entertaining players on tour is bound to provide drama to the fans. The first set was unexpectedly quiet and in favor of the Serb. However, the second was not quite.
Rune had a statement to make in the second set with a title defense on the line. He got an early break which was negated soon after by the world no.1. As the second set entered the closing stages, we finally received our share of drama when the Serbinator lost his cool.

Rune was trailing 4-5, serving to stay in the match. He went down 15-30 and was under immense pressure. Djokovic returned a ball close to the right sideline, which was called in. Rune continued the rally and challenged the umpire’s call once his own shot went long.
Djokovic was not happy with it. He knew that Rune was late to challenge but the umpire allowed. Knowing how important the moment was, the Serb was frustrated. He said, “Call the supervisor!“, but the umpire dismissed his plea and said, “The supervisor can’t be called on that, it’s my judgment.”

Djokovic gained a match point later, but Rune showed resilience to hold his serve and stay alive in the tie. He managed to drag the set to a tie-break and eventually to a decider after sealing the second with a clean down the line backhand. However, the drama did not quite end here.

Fans join in to spice things up
After a long set, players often opt for a mini washroom break. Djokovic needed to change and asked for one. As he left the court, the Parisians booed the 24-time major champion. They were certainly unhappy with his objection earlier in the set. Djokovic already had a moment with the crowd earlier in the match when he was disrupted in the middle of a rally.
