After his semifinal victory against Andrey Rublev, the 22-year-old was asked to comment on his upcoming fourth championship clash of this season against Medvedev. Jannik Sinner, who won the China Open final against the current world No. 3, refused to get carried away by his recent triumph as he showcased his humble side.

He said, “One more match against Danii, it’s obviously a very very important match for me. The last one I won but I lost so many so it doesn’t matter who really win the last one. Here’s different surface, yea different match for sure and I am looking forward to it.” Is Sinner looking to avenge past embarrassment?

While shedding light on his past encounters, the Italian tennis star added, “Last year, he won against me quite easily, so let’s see. I’m very happy that I can play against him, and hopefully it’s going to be a good match.” The young ATP phenomenon looks quite excited about his meeting with Medvedev, who is massively dominating their H2H record.

The Vienna Open championship match between Sinner and Medvedev will also mark their eighth meeting on the tour.  In two consecutive editions of the Marseille Open, the Russian tennis star secured his first two victories against his young colleague on the tour. They also met at the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals, where Medvedev enjoyed another comfortable win against the Italian.

Apart from this, the ATP superstars also locked horns at the previous edition of the Vienna Open, where Medvedev thumped Sinner in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Even in this, Sinner and Medvedev faced each other three times, with the Russian prevailing on two occasions and currently dominating their H2H record, 6-1.
