It is not often that one sees Nick Kyrgios breaking down into tears after losing a match. However, when the tournament is Laver Cup, and the opponent is Roger Federer, the emotions are at their peak. What adds to the drama is having a friend such as Jack Sock to help in those demanding moments. So what is going to be the mood for Laver Cup 2021?
Unfortunately, Federer is out of the event due to an injury, and Sock is an alternate for Team World. But Kyrgios, who will be playing for the fourth time in Laver Cup, has great expectations from debutants Felix Auger-Aliassime and Reilly Opelka. Besides, he, too, is looking forward to taking it all in during the three-day tournament.

In the pre-tournament press conference, Kyrgios admitted that he doesn’t feel such emotions in any other tournament. However, he did mention that the Davis Cup is similar to Laver Cup.
“I don’t usually cry much when I lose matches, and, you know, I went through a couple tough, tough losses here against Roger in Prague, and Jack had to come up to me and comfort me in that moment.”
“So, it brings out an array of emotions that you don’t feel; I don’t feel when I’m playing any other event. Davis Cup, obviously, similar to this. I think this carries a bit more weight,” Kyrgios said in the press.

Furthermore, the 26-year-old Australian said that Felix and Reilly are confident and playing excellent tennis. He added that they have their game plans and know what to do under pressure to execute them.
“It’s a lot more weight carried, but I’m confident in everyone on this table,” Kyrgios continued. “I’m sitting with some of the best players in the world, and they know what to do. They have won many, many matches.”
