When it comes to tennis, there are many underdogs that have continued to leave a mark on the sport. One among them is Ben Shelton. The 20-year-old player, who stunned everyone with his heroics at the US Open does not know any stopping and is just on the right track to greatness. However, deep behind his journey is a role model that has always inspired him to push his limits. He is none other than his father, Bryan Shelton.

Reflecting on the same, former ATP star, Nicolas Pereira, suggests the progress that Ben Shelton made under the guidance of his father. Not only this, but he also reflects on Shelton’s journey from someone not liking tennis to an upcoming sensation and the role that his father played in it.

Former ATP star reflects on Ben Shelton’s remarkable journey under his father

In a recent podcast, 53-year-old former ATP star Nicolas Pereira reflected on the journey of Ben Shelton to stardom. He also reflected on how he used to follow Ben Shelton from his initial days. Shelton’s journey began with a lack of interest in the sport. His father, Bryan Shelton, played an essential role as his coach.

What stands out is the enthusiasm and joy with which Ben Shelton plays the game. In a sport often marked by intense competition, his smile on the court makes everyone fall in love with the game. It’s equally heartwarming to see his coach-father, Bryan Shelton, sharing in that happiness.

“I have been following his career since you know the college days. he wasn’t even interested in tennis. Bryan used to tell me and look at him shining now, it’s a breath of fresh air. he plays with such enthusiasm and you see him smiling on the court. You know, which is something you don’t see much and then you see a smiling coach-father in Bryan. Of course, Bryan smiles always. it’s just great for tennis, in that particular case,” said Nicolas Pereira in the interview.

Thus, when it comes to tennis, Bryan Shelton is just the right guidance that Ben Shelton needs to hit the top. Still young in his career, Shelton will be looking to emulate the success that his father once got as a tennis player.

Bryan Shelton dropped his old coaching job to become a full-time coach of Ben Shelton

Interestingly, Bryan Shelton used to be the coach of Florida Gators, the team that had his son Ben Shelton in it. Shortly after Shelton made it to the grand stage, it became almost difficult for his father to juggle between his old coaching job and handling his son’s victory.

Thus, at that point, he decided to give up on his coaching and became a full-time coach for his son Ben Shelton. Wherever Shelton goes, he is accompanied by his dad. Not only this, he also helped his son lay his hands on the first-ever ATP title in Japan.

Thus, the father-son duo has been doing wonders when it comes to tennis. What will be more interesting to see how far these two can go in the future.
