“I have to pull out of the tournament. As everybody saw yesterday I have been suffering with the pain in the abdominal. I have a tear in the muscle. It doesn’t make sense to play, injury will get worse. I made this decision because I know I can?t win two matches [from here].? I can?t do the normal motion to serve. For respect to myself in some way, I don?t want to go out there and not be competitive enough,” he further said.

Later, he talked about putting a lot of effort during his quarter-final match against Fritz despite suffering the injury. “Everybody knows what effort I put in to be here. I can?t risk that much and stay two three moths out of the competition. Even if I tried a lot of times in all my career to keep going in very tough circumstances…it’s obvious that if I keep going the injury was going to be worse and worse,” he further added.

Nadal could miss three to four weeks
During today’s practice session, Nadal tried his best to make changes in his service motion. However, he was not getting any topspin, as he was feeling pain in his abdominal area.
Nadal had modified his service motion in practice to try and put less pressure on the abdominal area but there was less topspin and control as a result and the ball repeatedly landed long. Would have struggled tomorrow had he taken to the court.
