Alexander Zverev sailed through his quarterfinal round against the Australian, Alex de Minaur. Though the Demon put up a strong front against the German, he was unable to pressure him to the 5-set thriller. And lost to Zverev in straight sets. However, despite winning the match, the World No. 4 found himself on the receiving end of the onslaught of the tennis fans due to an incident before the beginning of the match.

The debate arose during the customary coin toss to decide which side serves. The World No.4, during the quarterfinals at the French Open, was asked to pick a side as the umpire tossed the coin into the air. And Zverev’s response created a tsunami of fury! Initially, in response to the umpire’s call, Zverev responded with a ‘ball’ side. However, when the coin landed on the racquet side, the German changed his response, and said that he called the racquet! Moreover, despite this debacle and his initial response heard out loud, he was allowed to choose.

Understandably, no one was pleased at this display. Zverev then started against de Minaur on a strong note. He overpowered the Australian in the first set with a score of 6-4. However, de Minaur tried to make a comeback in the second set and pushed the World No.4 for a tiebreaker, though Zverev claimed the set with 7-6. Even though Minaur was 2 sets down, he was certainly hoping to take a set from the German.

This was not allfans sarcastically called the World No.4, a ‘self-proclaimed leader’ and ‘a king of sportsmanship uno‘. And despite winning the match, this act got him called ‘a f**cking loser’. This incident left a sour aftertaste for the tennis community, as rather than celebrating his quarter-final triumph, the focus was on the controversial moment. Thus ruining the moment for everyone!

As the German focuses on his semi-final round against Casper Ruud. Tennis fans would be watching the match with eagle-eyed focus on the World no.4, post this incident! However, who will book their place in final tomorrow would be interesting to watch.
