Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios recently returned to court in the Stuttgart Open to start his preparation for the grass-court season. The Aussie superstar hasn’t played since April and skipped the French Open as well.

In the meantime, he has been practicing in his home in Australia. A few days back, he took a 24-hour flight from Australia to Stuttgart. After his landing, a bizarre incident happened that completely messed up his practice schedule. 

Nick Kyrgios lost all his tennis equipment before his first match at Stuttgart Open

When Kyrgios landed in Stuttgart, his tennis gear and rackets went missing. According to the Aussie player, he only got those back yesterday, a day before his first-round match at the Stuttgart Open.

However, all this didn’t affect him that much, as he won his first-round match against the Czech player Jiri Lehecka comfortably. The match lasted only 1 hour and 17 minutes and the final score was 7-6 6-3. After the match, he talked about the whole incident with his rackets and tennis gear. Safe to say, Kyrgios’ start of the grass-court season didn’t go as planned.

Apart from Kyrgios, other top players like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini, Andy Murray, Denis Shapovalov, and a few other players are also playing.

Kyrgios’ controversial year

The Aussie tennis player, Nick Kyrgios, started the year pretty well, as he won the Australian Open doubles title with Thanasi Kokkinakis. Since then, his year kind of went downhill. After the Australian Open, he kind of took a lengthy break from tennis. Then he returned to the Indian Wells and the Miami Open. In both tournaments, he received massive fines from ATP due to his unsportsmanlike behavior on the tennis court.

Also, he had constant arguments with chair umpires, and in another impulsive incident, he threw a racket which almost hit a ball kid. After this fiasco, he took part in the Houston challenger, which was a clay-court event. Although he reached the semis, he again got himself involved in an argument with the chair umpire, which ultimately cost him the match.

Nevertheless, he looked quite focused on his first match on the green surface, as he reached the round of 16. Meanwhile, grass has always been his favorite surface, as he had one of the best results of his career at Wimbledon. It will be interesting to see if he reaches far at this year’s Wimbledon, with many top players from Russia already missing.
