As one of the most accomplished tennis players in history, Novak Djokovic’s every action receives a lot of scrutiny. In January, he appointed Carlos Gomez Herrera, his former assistant coach, as his new team manager. Soon after, the 24-year-old Grand Slam champion took another decision.

After having a rough start to the season with an Indian Wells defeat and a Miami Open withdrawal, fans witnessed another major change in his team. He split from his former coach, Goran Ivanisevic. When asked about the reason behind the shuffles, Ivanisevic firmly stated in The Tennis Podcast, “I don’t know how in this stage of his life you know I don’t know you need to you need to even everything.”

He further continued, “If he doesn’t play one match ever in his life, nobody can say anything. He won 24 grand slams and everything that is possible to win.” Ivanisevic’s remarks imply that Djokovic might be looking for fresh inspiration or assistance from groups other than his current squad.

Even the most experienced players can become worn down by the demands of the professional game. Particularly at the top level, where Novak Djokovic competes, this is even more dominant. “So maybe he’s looking for something else. Maybe you know it’s tough to motivate yourself every day; maybe looking for some other people,” he elaborated.

Goran Ivansievic has previously talked about his split from Djokovic. His reason for the decision sparked a lot of attention in the tennis world.

When asked about the reason, he said to Tennis Majors in an interview, “I mean, there isn’t really a “real” reason. One reason is indeed a sense of saturation or fatigue. This really was a difficult and intense five years.” He further went to talk about the impact of the Corona virus that stalled the whole world for nearly two years. He admitted that they “reached a certain level of saturation.” Despite their end-of-professional relationship, Ivanisevic has only appreciation and love for Djokovic.
