Tennis has its fair share of surprises! But none is as astonishing as a player who’s seemingly able to foresee the outcome of matches! It is none other than Ben Shelton himself, whose uncanny predictions of Carlos Alcaraz and Arthur Fils‘ victories are leaving everyone speechless! The question coming to everyone’s head is: What’s behind his prophetic powers?

Unlike last year, Carlos Alcaraz faced a Round of 16 loss at the Queen’s Club Championships this year, before going to Wimbledon, sparking some doubts regarding his rocky transition from grass to clay. Breaking the pattern of last year’s consecutive triumphs at Queen’s and then at Wimbledon further fueled the fire. Fortunately, the Spaniard proved us wrong, and he is now celebrating his second consecutive victory at the All England Tennis Club this season. But there’s a shocking twist!

The American tennis player, Ben Shelton, knew it all. “Maybe Carlos will go back to back,” the 21-year-old previously admitted to the ATP Tour on X. But the situation grows more strangely intense.

By the time Arthur Fils jumped into the German Open tournament this season, the French tennis player had not won a title since his last victory in May in the Challenger Bordeaux, FR. Furthermore, the 20-year-old player’s first-round exit from the French Open and then a disappointing loss in the s-Hertogenbosch event cast doubt in all of our heads about his lacking form. Besides, his quarterfinal elimination from the Halle Open before facing a heartbreaking loss at the hands of Alex De Minaur in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon concerned us even more.

But Ben Shelton did not have a single ounce of doubt about the former World No. 20’s ability to rise through. Shelton, who has played one time against the French in the Laver Cup last year (and won), said, “But I think he’s going to win a title bigger than a 250 this year.” In a bizarre coincidence, his prediction came true as Arthur Fils clinched his title at the German Open (ATP 500 event) on July 21 by defeating Alexander Zverev!

Shelton’s fun interactions with Fils have often delighted both of their fans. From Shelton hilariously accusing Fils of copying his camera signature to having a fun banter together on-court, their camaraderie extends far beyond the tennis courts. But Fils is not the only one. Shelton’s admiration for Carlitos is also palpable!

Ben Shelton speaks highly of Carlos Alcaraz’s junior career, referring to him as a “polished” player

Since their junior days, Ben Shelton, who is around the same age as Carlos Alcaraz, has been aware of the Spaniard’s excellence on-court. At the time, Shelton had not fully gotten into the sport. Therefore, they never played together. But later on, when he watched the four-time Grand Slam champion’s game, he was impressed!

“But I definitely watched a few clips of him at that age and couldn’t believe how polished of a player [he was], how many skills he had at such a young age. He’s been out here grinding on the international tour for a few years now. And this is my first [full] year out here. So I’m looking forward to playing a little bit of catchup,” Shelton said last year.

However, when they played last year in the ATP Masters 1000 Canada, the Spaniard lifted the trophy. Now as Ben Shelton’s prediction of Carlos Alcaraz has come true, along with the one regarding Arthur Fils as well, the question is who the next one is in his list!
