Alexander Zverev’s turbulent journey in Rome is not over yet. Zverev has already qualified for the Italian Open final scheduled for tomorrow. But even after battling his opponent with ease in the semifinal, his discomfort regarding his “finger” has raised concern as he gave an update on the subject recently.
When Alexander Zverev fell on the ground during his quarter-final match against Taylor Fritz, we all held our collective breath in suspense. But, defying all odds, Zverev, who hurt his pinky finger and wrist, stood up and mesmerized everyone by defeating his opponent in 90 minutes. And then he showed his same prowess in the semifinal against Tabilo as well. Initially concerned about his injuries, he went on to win against Tabilo with a score of 1-6, 7-6, 6-2. However, just when we thought that his injuries might have subsided, Zverev gave a heartbreaking update on the current state of his finger.
“Yeah, my finger’s pretty big. I think I tore a capsule, from what I understood. The one here. Don’t ask me. I tore something. I don’t know what it is. But I didn’t break any bones, which is good,” the 27-year-old player disclosed after his latest victory.

Although during that match he received immediate treatment and went for a physio, his pain persisted even after that. The German tennis pro, who accidentally fell while returning a backhand during the third game, previously admitted that “I still have a little bit of pain, so once the adrenaline settles I’m going to check out tomorrow what it is.” Naturally, he did that and revealed yesterday, “I did the X-ray yesterday. Yeah, my bones are fine. That’s why I could play today.”

However, Alexander Zverev further added, “I managed the pain with pain killers, all of that. The finger is still very, very big. It was manageable. Obviously, I’m happy that I could manage today.” The former World No. 2 faced a similar situation a couple of years ago during his French Open tournament, where he faced none other than the ‘King of Clay’ himself.
“I don’t think about it,” says Alexander Zverev about his French Open injury
In his quest to defeat Rafael Nadal in the semifinal of French Open 2022, Alexander Zverev encountered an unlucky moment on-court. While he was deeply invested during the last point of the 12th game of the second set, Zverev fell on the ground, holding his ankle in excruciating pain. Soon, he left the court in a wheelchair. But little did he know that he will not be able to play another match for the next 12 months.

Not only that, he even had to undergo surgery to repair his ligaments. And when he came back last year on the same court of the French Open, he confessed, “I don’t think about it. I’m going on-court to win tennis matches. I’m not thinking about what happened last year.”
However, after two years, Alexander Zverev is now battling with another injury on clay. But, as he prepares to take on Nicolas Jarry in the final of Italian Open, we all hope that he recovers soon and comes back in full form.
