When it comes to the world of tennis, Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz is definitely the talk of the town at the present moment. And rightfully so. The 20-year-old achieved the near impossible when he dethroned the four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic at the All England Club, as he bagged his maiden Wimbledon crown and second Grand Slam title. He was able to maintain his composure and overcome the Djokovic juggernaut at the famed Centre Court of Wimbledon – a place where the Serb remained undefeated for 10 years until a certain Carlos Alcaraz showed up.

However, if we go back a month, the case was much different. Alcaraz squared off against Djokovic in the semifinals of the French Open – but the results were in favor of the veteran, unlike at SW19. In a recent interview, Alcaraz opened up on the changes he implemented to bounce back from that heartbreaking loss in Paris.

The World No. 1 candidly said, “At a mental level. Being aware that it is normal for me to play this type of match, I understood that I have to approach them with more relaxation, as if it were a routine. For the Wimbledon final, I had to change things, prepare myself differently mentally. I barely used my phone in the hours leading up to the final. I tried to cut myself off from the noise around the match, to put myself aside, to listen to more relaxing music, acoustic music with a slow rhythm. To relax as much as possible, to visualise what this final would be like, to do mental exercises that I had not done before.”
