Australian tennis star Ashleigh Barty announced a shocking retirement at the peak of her career. At an age of just 25, she bid adieu to the sport after claiming her first Australian Open title. The 26-year-old has been enjoying her life away from the court now. She picked up the Gold Club and even won a local tournament in Brisbane. However, for Australia as a country, it was a major setback to lose one of its finest performers. Nonetheless, Nick Kyrgios was there to carry the Australian flag this time.

The 27-year-old was in top form in this year’s Wimbledon Championships. He played top-class tennis to reach the finals of the tournament. Recently, in an interview, Barty spoke about the performance of her compatriot.

Speaking in an interview after the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships, the 2021 Wimbledon Champion lauded Nick Kyrgios for stellar performance this year.

“It was obviously awesome to see Nick, who I’ve known for over a dozen years, get to the final,” she said. Notably, Barty herself claimed the Wimbledon title last year after beating Karolina Pliskova in a three-set match.

Apart from that, she won the French Open in 2019 and finished her career with an Australian Open title at home. Although her interest in tennis was short-lived, the Aussie has left a solid impact on the game.

Novak Djokovic beats Kyrgios in finals of Wimbledon Championships 2022

Serbia tennis star Novak Djokovic was phenomenal throughout the tournament, this year. The 35-year-old was up against the challenge of Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios in the final. Even though Kyrgios claimed the first set of match, Djokovic made a strong comeback thereafter taking the next three sets.

This is the fourth consecutive Wimbledon title for Djokovic. He now has 21 Grand Slam titles, going past Roger Federer(20) and only one short of Rafael Nadal(22). While the race for most Grand Slam titles is still on, it might be the only Grand Slam title for the Serb this year.
