Andy Murray, the former World No 1, vowed tennis fans with his on-court prowess during the Australian Open 2023. The Brit’s display at the season-opening Grand Slam was full of grit, as he proved the critics wrong by playing over 5 hours of the match, in the 2nd and the 3rd round; it was due to the astounding fact that Sir Andy Murray was playing with a metal hip.
However, despite his on-court steal, Murray was unable to impress the fans with his logic regarding tennis viewership. It is no surprise that the broadcasting companies were in crisis during the first Major in Melbourne; due to a steep decline in viewership. But the former World No.1 had a contrasting view. Furthermore, he irked Twitter users with a blunder relating to another tennis star, Ashleigh Barty, in his tweet.

In response to a tweet by Mike Dickson regarding the paradoxical trends relating to sports viewership; according to Dickson, during Australian Open, the packed stadiums didn’t highlight the real trend of declining broadcasting viewership. The Brit’s reply was in contrast to the Tweet, as according to him, the drop was just in Australia. He said, “Surely a drop off to be expected in Australia with no Federer, Barry, or Kyrgios. Not sure that’s the case in every region, though.”
However, there was a fallacy relating to the tennis star, Ashleigh Barty, which Murray mistakenly wrote ‘Barry.’ And another was the fact that the drop was in Australia. These two things caught the eye of twitteratis, as they hit out at the Brit for these.
One user asked the former World No.1 about misspelling Barty, “Who’s Barry mate?” and another user mocked Murray’s use of auto-correct, “Autocorrect has tricked you again.”

While there were some users who are yet to find their favorites and said, “I’m not hopping on the Kyrgios train anytime soon. Nor, am I joining the Djokovic fab clib either, sorry to say. Amazing athlete; the best ever, but a jerk. Atleast he looks that way from my angle”
