People have termed Taylor Fritz the next big hope for American tennis. The 27-year-old did not have had an ideal start in the 2025 Grand Slam journey as he lost to Gael Monfils in the third round of the Australian Open. But we cannot overlook his outstanding 2024 form. Fritz reached the US Open final and the ATP finals championship match for the first time in his career. Another standout moment from his breakthrough year was his thrilling quarterfinal victory over Alexander Zverev at the US Open. I think it was one of the best matches of his career that day, as his big serve and aggressive baseline game were full on display. As he looks ahead to the 2025 season, Fritz might be considering an important adjustment towards his schedule.
Fritz made history last year by becoming the first American to reach the finals of the Nitto ATP since 2006. He defeated Daniil Medvedev and Alex De Minaur in the group stages and ousted two-time champion Zverev to attain the feat of reaching one of the biggest finals of his career. Additionally, he also made it to the quarterfinals of both the Australian Open and the Wimbledon in 2024. These accomplishments rocketed him to a career-high ranking of World No.4 by the end of 2024. After a remarkable last season, Fritz is now considering a strategic shift in his schedule.
In an interview with racquetmag.com on January 27, he expressed his desire to play fewer matches to maintain peak performance. “I’d love to shorten up the schedule here and there. Maybe play a little bit less,” Fritz stated. His 2024 season schedule was tight, as he played a total of 78 matches with a record of 55 wins and 23 losses, maintaining a 70.5% win percentage. While the stats are impressive, the high workload may have taken a toll on his endurance and consistency.

“That’s something I’m still learning about—how to feel like I have enough time to mentally reset between tournaments so I can show up motivated and ready to compete my best,” he added.
Fritz’s decision to refine his schedule is evident in his efforts to balance performance and recovery while being competitive to go deeper into the Grand Slam. Recently, he played a crucial role in securing the United Cup title for the United States after clinching a hard-fought three-set victory against Hubert Hurkacz.

Although Fritz is yet to claim an indoor title on the ATP tour, his strong finish in the 2024 season makes him a top contender in the ongoing Dallas Open and beyond. By adjusting his schedule, he aims to maintain his momentum and remain physically and mentally prepared for the biggest challenges of the season.

Taylor Fritz is all set to play at the Dallas Open
American tennis star Taylor Fritz is the top seed this year at the newly upgraded ATP 500 event that kick-started on Monday. In 2022, organizers moved the tournament to Dallas from New York. Taylor Fritz will be looking to make a deeper run in the tournament. He has won eight ATP titles until now, with four of them being on the home soil. He will be looking to add another title to his resume at Dallas.

Interestingly, two of the three champions in the past three Dallas Open have been Americans. Reilly Opelka triumphed in 2022, and Tommy Paul lifted the trophy in 2024. Although Fritz has not been able to win a title indoor yet, he made the first tour-level championship match of his career indoors at Memphis nine years ago. He was just 18 years old at that time. The current home’s favorite has made improvements to his game in the past two years at the Dallas Open. He reached the quarterfinals in Dallas in 2022 and improved next year to reach the semifinals in 2023.
Fritz also was successful at Delray Beach, as he won back-to-back titles at the ATP 250 event that takes place a week after the Dallas Open. He has also proved his capability on home soil when he secured the biggest title of his career at the ATP Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells. As he steps on the court in Dallas, he will look to break his indoor title drought and continue his strong performance in front of the home crowd. He is set to face Arthur Rinderknech in the round of 32 on Wednesday, 5 February.
