Novak Djokovic experienced a wrist injury while playing in the United Cup. The issues popped up during his bout with Alex De Minaur, and the Serbinator took all precautions to ensure he was healthy for the Australian Open. After much speculation, he landed in Melbourne to practice for the first slam of the year.

In the country, aiming for his 25th slam, the Djoker sat down for a press conference. While addressing many other aspects of his upcoming stint, he also touched on the condition of his wrist.

Novak Djokovic provides a wrist injury update

Before the first grand slam of the year commenced, the 10-time champion decided to sit down for a press conference. He touched on how he is feeling for the upcoming Australian Open and also on the condition of his injury. The press also asked him about how much he thinks Alex De Minaur can improve as a player.  

Djokovic said, “My wrist is good. I had time from the last match against de Minaur in the United Cup to my first match here to recover. I’ve been training well. Practice sessions pain-free so far. It’s good. It’s all looking good. Let’s see how it goes.”

Additionally, he praised Minaur’s stint in the United Cup, “De Minaur played great in United Cup. He beat Fritz, myself, Zverev. He broke into the top 10 for the first time in his career. It’s obviously a big deal for him, for Australian tennis.

While talking about his condition as he goes on to defend his title, Novak Djokovic was also asked about the players he found threatening. His response showed his confidence in his abilities. 

Djokovic dismisses other players as threats

In the same press conference, a reporter asked the Djoker who he saw as the biggest threat to dethrone him in Australia. He did not have to think for long before he answered, “Myself always first”. He said other players would come then. When each player comes to play a slam to win it, he puts himself at the top.

His comments might rub some in the tennis world the wrong way, but the accomplishments of the Serbinator have earned him immense bragging rights. Novak Djokovic is a favorite in any tournament he plays, and the player is confident in his ability to win matches.
