It’s Super Sunday! We’re all set to witness the epic 2025 Australian Open final in just a few moments from now. Currently world number one, Jannik Sinner will take on the number two, Alexander Zverev at the Rod Laver Arena. Sinner is currently aiming to make history for Italy by defending his Australian Open title. On the other hand, Zverev is hoping to secure his first major title in his career. Yesterday, we saw Madison Keys upsetting the defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s final. Who will get the edge in the men’s final? Time will tell, but how are the weather conditions on Sunday? Will the roof be closed in this iconic stadium?
We all saw how the 2025 AO kicked off with torrential downpours and lightning. Several matches on the outer courts were forced to make a halt, leaving players, officials, and fans scrambling to adjust. However, matches at the bigger courts, including the Rod Laver Arena were left uninterrupted due to its closed-roof features. Are we going to see a similar situation in the final as well?
According to various reports, Victorians and tennis fans will enjoy “fantastic” weather on Sunday. As per the forecast, the temperatures could reach a top of 26 degrees on Sunday (currently it’s around 22 degrees Celsius). It is mostly sunny as of now and according to the Bureau of Meteorology’s Lincoln Trainor’s previous statement, “It’s fantastic weather for the women’s final and for the men’s final, which is really positive, and even the winds are quite pleasant. We’ve got a light to moderate southerly wind during the afternoon, and that’s becoming light in the evening.“

So, nothing much to worry about for all the tennis fans, and what about the rooftop? Will it be closed? Well, yesterday it wasn’t closed and we’re expecting similar weather conditions on Sunday as well. So, most probably the roof will remain open on the men’s final as well! Now talking a bit about this stadium, Rod Laver Arena, this iconic stadium was first opened on 11 January 1988. Why is this stadium so special, though?

The Rod Laver Arena is a multipurpose arena located within Melbourne Park. It’s the main venue for the Australian Open and it has a capacity of around 14,820. The arena currently attracts over 1.5 million visitors per year! Do you know it was the first tennis venue in the world and in fact the first arena of any kind in Australia to have a retractable roof installed?
How did the idea of having a rooftop come up? Well, the idea for such a roof came about at the suggestion of the premier of Victoria (around 1980), John Cain. He came up with this compromise idea after Tennis Australia requested the government to build an open-air tennis facility next to a preexisting government project to build a closed-roof entertainment center. So, there is already a lot of history involved with this iconic venue, and guess what? Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev are now standing inches closer to creating a historic moment in their careers. What did they say ahead of this epic battle?

“Everything can happen” – Jannik Sinner shares his thoughts on the epic 2025 Australian Open final against Alexander Zverev
This will be their seventh meeting on the Tour and guess who’s leading the H2H scoreline at the moment? Well, currently Alexander Zverev has a lead of 4-2 against Jannik Sinner. However, if Jannik Sinner wins this match, he could possibly become the first Italian player in history to win three Slam titles. Sinner is currently on a 20-match winning streak.
On the other hand, if Alexander Zverev wins this battle at the 2025 Australian Open final, then he will become the first German to win a men’s singles title in almost 30 years, since Boris Becker’s historic feat at the 1996 Australian Open. Even Zverev has been in some red-hot form in the last few months. He has won 16 of his past 17 matches dating back to his title-winning run at the Paris Masters. Interestingly, this will be the first time since Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in the 2019 edition that the top two seeds in the men’s singles will fight against each other in the final of this iconic tournament.
