Novak Djokovic won against Ben Shelton in great fashion. He beat down the 20-year-old in a blazing fashion and moved on to the finals in straight sets. The Serbian now has the chance to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 grand slam titles. Before he went up to shake hands with the player, Djokovic enacted a celebration that drew the attention of many, especially Nick Kyrgios.
Djokovic’s celebration was reminiscent of the celebration of his opponent as he copied it after his win. But he is not the only one who copied the gesture of another player. Carlos Alcaraz, prior to his defeat, also celebrated in the manner of another athlete of another sport. Djokovic shared a similar spirit.

The semifinal was one match that many American tennis fans were looking forward to. Ben Shelton stepped up during the American slam and beat player after player to reach this stage. He beat many hopefuls, including Frances Tiafoe to bag a chance at the final. But his glorious stint came to an end facing the mammoth of men’s tennis currently – Djokovic.
The Djoker is not someone who relents easily, and he does not give any quarter to Shelton. He won the match in straight sets and before the handshake, copied Shelton’s iconic celebration of hanging up the phone. Many fans enjoyed the gesture, and Nick Kyrgios was in the same boat as them as he shared the video of the celebration with the quote, “COLD ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️“.

Djokovic did not mean it as a sign of disrespect. Rather, he was living up to his image of being the Djoker, as it was a display of his confidence. He copied the move of his opponent, following the lead of Alcaraz, who copied his win celebration from another athlete.

Carlos Alcaraz copies the move of Real Madrid star
Being a Spaniard, Alcaraz follows the La Liga religiously. He is a big fan of its players and, especially, the player they acquired this year, Jude Bellingham. After his win against Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal, Alcaraz celebrated in the same manner as Bellingham after his win. He spread his arms to hype up the crowd. He shared the picture along with the caption, “Hey Jude“.

The two players celebrating together in such a manner is a sign that certain aspects of tennis are changing. Players are bringing more of their personality when the match commences, and the entertainment from their gestures only increases.
