The Greek tennis sensation had a successful season, especially in the first half, when he reached the championship matches of the Australian Open and the Barcelona Open. On top of this, Stefanos Tsitsipas also enjoyed a triumphant campaign at the Los Cabos Open, as he has now extended his ATP singles title tally to 10. With 43 wins from 62 matches under his belt this season, the Greek will enter the Vienna Open as the 4th seed.

Dominic Thiem, on the other hand, made a notable impression at the Austrian Open, where he reached the title match of the event. However, the 30-year-old has only managed to garner 23 wins from 50 matches, with a number of initial round defeats during the hard court season. After another disappointing campaign at the European Open, Thiem will enter Vienna as an unseeded player.

Tsitsipas vs. Thiem: Head-to-Head

This will be the 11th matchup between Tsitsipas and Thiem on the tour, with their head-to-head record currently tied at 5-5. Their most recent encounter took place at this season’s Wimbledon Championships, where the Greek prevailed in a five-set thriller, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.  Prior to this, they also faced each other at the Mutua Madrid Open, where Tsitsipas clinched a victory in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.

In their two meetings at the Nitto ATP Finals in London, the ATP players each claimed one win. Apart from the Australian Open, Tsitsipas and Thiem also had another Grand Slam meeting at the clay major event. At the 2018 French Open, it was the Austrian tennis star who prevailed in their second-round matchup, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Prediction: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets

Given their current rankings and form, Tsitsipas is looking primed to come out on top against his Austrian opponent, who has had a challenging season. The current world No. 7 possesses an aggressive playing style that will make him the favorite to win his first-round match in straight sets.
