The former world No. 1 is yet to make any notable impression on the hard courts this season. After his second-round exit from the US Open, Andy Murray failed to make any amends during his recent campaigns in China. In the round of 16 of the Zhuhai Championships, Aslan Karatsev brushed aside the Brit in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Later, the 36-year-old further faced back-to-back first-round defeats in the following tournaments, the China Open and Shanghai Masters.
Yannick Hanfmann, on the other hand, has also struggled with his performances during the hard-court tournaments this season. In the very first round of the US Open, the German player tasted a thumping defeat at the hands of the sixth seed, Jannik Sinner. Hanfmann later also had disappointing performances at the China Open and Shanghai Masters, losing in the initial rounds of both competitions.
Murray vs. Hanfmann: Head-to-Head
For the very first time in their respective competitive journeys, Murray and Hanfmann will lock horns with each other at the Swiss Indoors Basel. The head-to-head record is 0-0, with no previous confrontations between the two ATP superstars.
Prediction: Murray to win in three sets
Although both ATP players have struggled to perform at their best levels, the Brit’s vast experience and determination on the court will make him the favorite to win the match. Hanfmann will look to make it a challenging contest for Murray, but if the three-time singles Grand Slam champion can settle into his rhythm, he stands a good chance of winning in three sets.
