The Santiago Open 2024 has turned into a nightmare. But how? Not only does it have irregular bounces but also the risk of falls and injuries to players. While tennis fans are openly criticizing this year’s edition on social media, a Chilean tennis player, Cristian Garín, has joined tennis fans in criticizing the event’s court.
Players slipping and falling on the court has become an obvious part of the Santiago Open. But now let’s take a look at what the 27-year-old tennis player has to say about this not-so-good court condition.

Garin is someone who has been struggling to participate in tournaments, but recently participated in his home country’s event, the Santiago Open, facing problems in the first round itself. After a first-round defeat against Tomás Barrios, the local tennis boy talked in a press conference about the reality of how the courts of the tournament actually are.

He said, “My level is very low, full of injuries, nowadays I can lose to anyone (…) I try a lot and playing this badly is depressing. I don’t like to criticize the tournament because it is here, but it is the worst court at the ATP level I have played on.”
Not only did he tag that as the worst court at the ATP level that he might have ever played on, but he also highlighted how the court is also quite depressive and playing on such a court is not a good idea. In addition, although, he is a huge fan of the tournament, the courts have made him go the other way.
Amid all the chaos, a shocking reality from the tournament has come to light, stating how players are facing problems on the court. A popular tennis commentator, Jose Morgado, shared an update on how Joao Fonseca is the 5th or 6th player to fall on the center court in Santiago this week. Nevertheless, let’s take a look at what the tennis fans have to say about such a fall ratio.
Tennis fans not happy with Santiago Open court’s condition
A lot of tennis fans reply to the tennis commentators’ updates, and share their thoughts on how it’s not right for any player to go through this. A fan highlighted the consequences that actually come with the fact that when a ball doesn’t bounce back, there is no play situation for the player, even in sports.
When the ball doesn’t bounce, and thus the player has no play, that’s bad for the sport. No doubt.
