Stefanos Tsitsipas is keen to overcome his disappointing 2025 AO campaign with a win in his first match at the ABN AMRO Open. He’s all set to face the young Frenchman, Harold Mayot, in the first round (R32) in Rotterdam. Mayot will be making his main draw debut at this tournament. What does Tsitsipas have to say about his upcoming task, though? “I have had a good time off and I am really prepared now. I feel I’m fresh. I’m happy to be very fit because I’ve worked a lot on fitness in recent months. Tennis-wise, I’m there. I just need to now deliver,” said the Greek in a recent interview. Can he deliver his A-game against this relatively inexperienced campaigner?

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Harold Mayot: Preview

The 26-year-old Greek star, Stefanos Tsitsipas, started the 2024 season by reaching the SF at the Los Cabos Open and making it to the QF at the Mexican Open. However, after that, he managed to clinch a title at the Monte Carlo Masters where he defeated Norwegian superstar, Casper Ruud, by 6-1,6-4. Even at the Barcelona Open, he reached the final, but over there he was defeated by the same opponent in two sets. Stefanos Tsitsipas made quite a few long runs in the next few tournaments in 2024 and that also includes his QF run at the French Open. However, in 2025 he’s yet to find his rhythm! Tsitsipas will be entering this contest following his first-round defeat to America’s Alex Michelsen at the 2025 AO.

Can yet another youngster upset Stefanos Tsitsipas? Harold Mayot was quite impressive on the Challenger Tour last year. He reached quite a few finals last year, but unfortunately for the Frenchman, he failed to deliver when it mattered the most. Apart from that, Mayot also reached the QF of the 2024 Open Occitanie. However, in the same tournament this year, he made an early exit at the hands of his compatriot, Arthur Rinderknech. Harold Mayot has already won two matches in this tournament and he’s entering this contest following his two-set win over Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin in the second qualifier.

Talking about their playing styles, Harold Mayot is known for his solid all-around game, good movement, and consistency. His game is basically built on consistency and movement. Mayot’s youth could bring in more energy and a fresh approach to the match. However, his relative inexperience at the higher ATP level in comparison to Stefanos Tsitsipas may well make things a bit tougher for him in this match.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is an aggressive baseliner who loves hitting powerful groundstroke winners and has a particularly strong forehand. He also has a big serve in his armory, which can put Mayot in some real trouble in this epic battle. Tsitsipas hit 421 aces last season and committed just 186 double faults! Apart from that, the Greek often uses his high topspin rate to push his opponents off the court. His signature hot is his one-handed backhand. However, his biggest weakness has been his high percentage of unforced errors while trying to hit winners. If Tsitsipas can keep this thing in check in this match, then this contest may well get wrapped up pretty quickly.
