In his opening match, the Brazilian player pulled off an upset against 7th-seeded Frenchman Arthur Fils in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. Fonseca then breezed past his Chilean opponent, Cristian Garín, to reach the quarterfinals of the Rio Open.

Mariano Navone, on the other hand, has secured a place in the main draw of the ATP Tour 500 event after some brilliant qualifying round victories. In his first-round match, the Argentine player made a stellar comeback against his compatriot, Federico Coria, as he won with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. The 22-year-old later swept aside the unseeded German player Yannick Hanfmann in the round of 16.
Fonseca vs. Navone: Head-to-Head
The quarterfinal match between Fonseca and Navone at the Rio Open will also mark their second meeting on the men’s circuit. In their previous encounter at the 2022 Sao Leopoldo Challenger, the Brazilian tennis prodigy defeated Navone in a three-set game, and currently has a 1-0 lead in their H2H record.

The Brazilian player is playing on his home turf and will have the support of the local crowd rooting for him against his Argentine opponent.
