Can Alex Bolt pull off an upset against Marcos Giron, or is Giron too strong to beat?

Marcos Giron and Alex Bolt are all set for an exciting clash at the QF of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. The 31-year-old Australian, Bolt mainly plays on the ATP Challenger Tour and he has already won two titles this year. Apart from that, he has also made it through to two finals and one SF. On the other hand, America’s Marcos Giron has reached one final, one SF, and two QFs in the 2024 season. Both of them have made a decent start in this tournament, now it’ll be interesting to see who makes a longer run in Newport.

Alex Bolt has won his previous two matches, and he hasn’t yet dropped a set in this tournament. He defeated America’s Brandon Nakashima in the R16, and now can he defeat another American in the QF? Well, Giron will enter this match after his hard-fought victory against the Frenchman, Benoit Paire in his previous round. He will surely be keen to outperform the Aussie by taking advantage of the home conditions.

Alex Bolt thrashed Jakub Mensik (CZE) in the first round by 6-2,6-4 and then, in the second, he defeated Nakashima in yet another two-setter. In that match against Brandon Nakashima, Bolt hit nine aces and committed two double faults in the R16 match. He won 74% of his first serve and 59% of his second serve. However, Alex Bolt managed to convert only three out of his twelve breakpoints.

He has hit 24 aces so far this season and has committed just four double faults before this tournament. Bolt has won 81% of his service games and 15% of his return games.

Marcos Giron defeated Benoit Paire by 4-6,7-5,6-4 in the R16 and in that match he hit eight aces, committing just four double faults in the entire match. His first serve win percentage was 74% but on the second serve, it dropped to 49%. He managed to convert five of his ten breakpoint chances in that match against the Frenchman.

Prediction: Giron to win this match in three sets

Backing the American on American soil will be a better call than picking a different one! Even in the rankings, Marcos Giron (46) is way ahead of the Australian who is currently ranked 210 in the world. However, if we take a look at their win-loss record, Alex Bolt has won three matches and lost three matches so far this season on the main Tour. Whereas, Marcos Giron has recorded a win-loss record of 17-18.

Even, Marcos Giron has a strong forehand and the American is known to be a solid baseliner. Can he bring a solidity in his game against the Australian?
