ATP Montpellier 2024: Holger Rune vs Michael Mmoh Preview; Head-to-Head, and Prediction

The Open Sud de France is one of the first ATP 250 tournaments after the Australian Open. The championship is a great place for players ranked lower to win a few matches and gain some momentum. Holger Rune won his first bout in the tournament and will now play against Michael Mmoh in the quarterfinal.

Both players are in need of a win. They have not had a great start at the stint of the season. Winning their clash would mean that they get a shot to play for the finals.

Rune entered the top 10 for the first time in 2023. He achieved a career-high ranking of 4 after the US Open concluded. He managed to achieve these results after reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open and Wimbledon. Additionally, the finals of two Masters tournaments also helped him climb higher. However, near the end of the season, he could not keep his form going. 

He then partnered up with Boris Becker to improve his form and saw some respite in the Brisbane International, where he reached the finals but lost to Grigor Dimitrov. He exited the Australian Open in round 2 and will now focus on beating Mmoh. In the Open Sud de France, he won his first-round clash in straight sets.

Michael Mmoh, on the other hand, has been struggling with his form. In 2023, he managed to reach the finals of a Challenger tournament in Japan but lost the tournament. Coming into 2024, he exited both Challenger tournaments early and failed to win the first qualifier bout for the Australian Open. Coming into the Open Sud de France, Mmoh won his previous clashes in straight sets, and he will be looking for a win over Rune.

Holger Rune and Michael Mmoh have not played each other on the ATP Tour before. This will be the first time they clash against each other. They have developed their strategies by watching each other in different matches throughout the years.

The audience will also have them compete for the first time in their careers. Both players need the win to overcome the disappointing results in the first slam of the year.

Prediction: Rune to win the clash

Rune has much less experience than the American player, however, in the short span of his career, he has showcased much better results than Mmoh. In the past month, he has also exhibited a better performance standard than him. In their upcoming match, he has the better chance of winning their bout and will likely win it in straight sets.
