What would have Arthur Fils thought before he played the Hamburg Open final against the French Open finalist Alexander Zverev? He would have come on the court with all guns blazing and ammunition packed in the form of strategies. It’s not an easy task to play against the top 5, and even deadly when they are playing on home turf. However, it seems Fils need not prepare this much as Zverev’s dismal performance in the first set has not only made it easy for the French but also irked the German fans, as their favorite downplays his potential at an ATP event when the Paris Olympics are just around the corner.

In the finals underway, the French tennis star, Fils, leads with a set, as Zverev dominates the 2nd set in hopes of making a comeback. Losing here would be a harsh blow to his dreams of defending Olympic glory. However, there is something more worrying when tennis fans look at Zverev’s match statistics. The German has been unable to convert 16 breakpoints! A massive 16 chances were lost to change the momentum in his favor. And tennis fans didn’t take this lightly. They were appalled by Zverev’s statistics at the tournament.

This tennis fan had enough of Zverev’s break-point loss, that they tweeted his dismal performance against Fils on X. “14 break point wasted… Alexander Zverev on a Misson to break the record of missing most break point in an ATP tour match!” And as the match proceeded, two more break points were missed by German, taking the streak to 16!

This tweet opened the discussion for many more tennis fans, as they came together not to cheer the German. But to make him realize that he took awfully long to get his first break point and win the 2nd set. And if the luck is on the French side, and Zverev repeats the blunder of breakpoints like he did in the first 2 sets, Tennis fans, especially Germans, won’t take it lying down.

“Biggest choker”- tennis fans out for Alexander Zverev after break points blunder

The Frenchman Fils started in attacking mode, as he tried to dominate the match from the get-go. However, Zverev is not the person to toy with. And the latter statement was proven wrong just minutes later when Zverev couldn’t save 14 break points. As a result, Fils claimed his first set. Despite making a recovery in the 2nd set, the break-point blunder was nowhere over, as in the next 4 breakpoints, he could just convert 1. Thus taking the odds against him at 17-1. And this tennis fan was sure to not let the moment go down easily. They tweeted, “17 breakpoints, 0 breaks: ladies & gentlemen, Alexander Zverev! 👏👏🤮🤮🤮🤮”

What’s your perspective on:

Can Zverev bounce back from this embarrassing loss, or is his career on a downward spiral?

The other user thought that the German was the “Biggest choker” in the ATP tour, despite being given many chances to turn things around. Give tennis fans a terrific show of power, as a dominant win would have reinforced their belief in the German. That he just might bring the Olympic gold home, again. But it seems tennis fans would get everything but reassurance from Zverev. And it seems that Fils is back on strong foot to claim the 3rd set, as he starts in the attacking mode.

The current scenario seems to be against the German, as this user put it, “ATP 500 HAMBURG FINAL: Alexander Zverev wins the 2nd set 6-3 against Arthur Fils to force a 3rd This one has been interesting, it took Zverev 17 breaks points to finally break through, he did so and took it to the finish of this set.” Maybe Fils is a very strong opponent for Zverev right now.

It seems that Zverev is taking his time to adjust after the injury at the Wimbledon. But tennis fans are not letting anything slide as they say, “Zverev cannot win a break point to save his life 😂.” But the German needs to win the breakpoints if he wants to make a comeback in the tournament. As Fils is on his merry way to claim a victory against one of the top 5 players. Which would deliver a big blow to the defending Olympic champion.

As Zverev pushes Fils attacks, with the score hanging in balance, it would be interesting to watch how many breakpoints he can convert before the match ends!
