After a close-call defeat at Roland Garros, Alexander Zverev is all set to step foot on the grass courts. Fresh off from his loss against Carlos Alcaraz, he will be starting his run against compatriot Oscar Otte. Having witnessed the ups and downs of the tennis world with a keen experience, Otte possesses a personality like no other. While the details to know about him are endless, here’s some info on the ATP star.

Originating from the same country as his upcoming opponent, Oscar Otte was born in 1993 and turned pro in 2011. At 30 years of age, Otte packs a career-high ranking of 36th in singles and has collected a total of 23 titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour, along with seven ATP Challenger Tour titles. Known for his seasoned dominance, the German made his name known to the world by serving the 20th seed Lorenzo Sonego a defeat in the 2021 US Open, where he made it to the fourth round, making it his best slam run.

Coming from an adorable and supportive family, Otte seeks inspiration from his mother, Wanda, whom he regards as a hero. His father was the one to show him the path to tennis while the ATP star was just six. Otte possesses fine linguistic skills as he travels around the world and has a strong hold on both German and English. His preference has always been playing on the red dirt with his forte lying in using the signature slice shot.

Beyond the sport that he lives and breathes, Otte is also passionate about football and therefore supports 1. FC Koln and Bayern Munich. Carrying the childhood mischief until now, Oscar Otte finds solace in reading Harry Potter, watching The Smurfs, and following the adventures in One Piece. Woody Harrelson is the one actor that he admires, and he has a keen interest in RAF Camora’s music.

Known for his on-point humor, Otte balances his career with hobbies like playing with his dogs and watching movies, along with enjoying a game of darts with his friends. While most of his life has been all smiles because of his jolly personality, there was a time when he had to go through a Novak Djokovic-like injury.

The whole tennis world is currently concerned about Novak Djokovic’s physical status. The Serb had to go through surgery after his five-setter showdown against Francisco Cerundolo at Roland Garros. While it is a meniscus tear that keeps the Serb away from the scene for a long while, Oscar Otte also had a similar experience in his career.

Back in July 2022, the German faced a third-round defeat in Wimbledon, which also forced him to stay away because of a meniscus injury. Although he had to spend some time out to heal, the 30-year-old came back stronger and better. “Rehab successfully completed, ready for New York,” he wrote as a caption for his Instagram post, which was targeted to announce the comeback.

Alexander Zverev’s recent defeat against Carlos Alcaraz filled him with disappointment. As he’s set to regain his confidence, the showdown against compatriot Oscar Otte wouldn’t be an easy win for him.
