Is the constant mockery of Tsitsipas by commentators justified, or are they crossing the line?

Whether Stefanos Tsitsipas remembers bee-buzzing or not, some people will not let him forget. Every player has their own quirks, about focusing and distracting. However, he is no Daniil Medvedev who finds himself surrounded by controversies with the umpires. Nonetheless, a commentator couldn’t help as she took a sly dig at the Greek tennis star over last year’s bee-buzz incident. Maybe trying to generate a fire from last year’s ambers. It seems everyone loves a good controversy or gossip!

Back in 2023, during the Cincinnati Masters, Stefanos Tsitsipas was adamant about getting a fan kicked out of the tournament due to constant disturbance. What did the fan do to make the Greek tennis star mad? They were making bee-buzz noises during his serve moments, hence disturbing the player’s focus. Consequently, he took the matter rightfully to the umpire and said, “There’s a person imitating a bee behind me. It’s a buzz right before I serve. Do you think that’s okay?” And what followed was Tsitsipas asking the fan to be ejected from the stands.

The matter was sorted out after the fan apologized. It was done and dusted back then. However, it resurfaced at the Swiss Open, as Tsitsipas was all set for the semifinals. The commentator took the reference to the bee incident as she said, “Stefanos has a reputation for discussions with umpires about ‘nothing’ topics.” This was not taken lightly by one of Tsitsipas’ fans, as she took to X to chide the commentator. In response to the commentator’s remark, the fan named Gerda Pardiac tweeted, “And giving example of last year “bee” issue. Is it nothing that spectator imitating a bee behind you to distract your serve? I more think commie’s trying find an issue from nothing.”

Whether it was an issue or not, is best left to the players themselves as they are the best judge of their situation. Meanwhile, like everyone else, Tsitsipas is also getting ready for the upcoming Paris Olympics. And he could face his ‘rival’ Carlos Alcaraz as he hopes to fulfill his childhood dream in Paris.

The player who pushes you to your limits every time can certainly be defined as a rival. Tsitsipas thinks that it’s Alcaraz who pushes him as he has been creating history on the tour. While acknowledging the trouble that Alacarz gives him when they face each other, Tsitsipas showed his respect for the World No.3 as he opened up about their rivalry.

Tend to believe that my ball quality is one of the best on the tour and every time I get to play Carlos, I feel like he delivers a shot quality that I don’t quite get against other opponents. I feel like his shot hits deep and has a lot of top spin to it,” the 25-year-old said.

Despite the trouble, Stefanos Tsitsipas would have to get through Alcaraz to fulfill his Olympic dream. Nadal was certainly right, that his compatriot is a threat at every slam and not just a favorite on one turf. Alcaraz is the rival everyone will look out for at the Paris Olympics.
