Both Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev had a disappointing start to their respective campaigns at the ATP Finals. Coming in as a hot favorite, Carlos Alcaraz has been unable to find his rhythm ever since his loss at the hands of Novak Djokovic in the Cincinnati Masters.

The young Spanish player faced Alexander Zverev in the first group-stage match. In a match that many expected to go Alcaraz’s way, he won the first set and was clearly on his way to winning the match. However, the German player had some other plans in his mind. He wrote one of the most triumphant comebacks and took the win from the jaws of defeat. The final scoreline of the match was 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in favor of Zverev.

On the other hand, his opponent Andrey Rublev also started his campaign on a low. Having faced compatriot Daniil Medvedev in the first group stage match, the world number 3 player proved to be an absolute menace to Rublev. Pulling an easy 6-4, 6-2 win, Rublev couldn’t do much against him.

With a chance to take an early lead in the head-to-head statistics and further solidify their position in the group, both players will be looking to perform at their best level.

Prediction: Who could taste victory?

As it stands, it is hard to predict the winner between the two players. However, with the struggling form that Carlos Alcaraz has shown, he might go down yet again. Since his loss at the Cincinnati Masters against Novak Djokovic, Carlos has struggled with form. Thus, this provides an edge to Andrey Rublev.

But Alcaraz will not go down with a fight. Despite a loss against Zverev, it was his best performance in months. It is something to take note of ahead of the upcoming match. While Rublev is going to be a tough opponent for Alcaraz, he may lack the ball-striking power and runs the risk of getting blasted off the court if the Spaniard gets back to his original form. However, if the Russian has a good serving day, tight competition is expected.

Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz in three sets.
