Polish tennis player Hubert Hurkacz won his first title of the season at the ATP Estoril, in the Portuguese Riviera. Outclassing Spanish tennis pro Pedro Martínez in straight sets, he has started his clay season on a positive note. Although after vending out an impressive performance, things got slightly weird at the award ceremony.
Award ceremonies at tennis tournaments are one of the best opportunities for memorable photos and speeches. But at the ATP Estoril things got comical when Hurkacz had to confirm the transfer of his winning amount on the spot.

Portuguese commentator Jose Morgado shared a hilarious clip on his ‘X’ handle. The clip is from the ATP Estoril award ceremony when Hurkacz had to confirm the transfer of his prize money on the spot. The Pole is seen looking at the screen with the tournament director and turning to the crowd to confirm the transaction with a thumbs up, saying “It’s done!”

Many found it extremely hilarious, while some noted this was probably due to the sponsors of the tournament being a bank or a FinTech company who wanted to advertise their online transfer services at the Final of the tournament and the organizers had to follow through.
While sponsors are important for any tournament, they have recently been more important at ATP Estoril because of the history. The tournament was created in 2015 to replace the historic Portugal Open that was canceled due to a lack of sponsorships.
With everyone beaming with happiness, tennis award ceremonies every now and then provide hilarious moments. No stranger to funny award ceremonies, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek has had a few. She had one such moment last year at the French Open.

After winning the 2023 French Open, which marked her third French Open title in just four years, the Champion was presented with the trophy by the legendary Chris Evert. The Pole lifted the trophy with vigor and excitement, dropping the top part on the clay.
Making hilarious and goofy faces the Pole removed the top part of the trophy to continue celebrating and posing for pictures. This left the fans and the spectators in splits who she interacted with, giving out pictures and autographs.
Iga Swiatek thanked her sponsors and fans in the on-court post-match interview, “I also want to thank my sponsors who are supporting me, and you guys for coming and giving us the energy. It was so loud today and in the semifinals, incredible really, and I hope next year the atmosphere will be even better. Thank you for coming and enjoy!”
