Good sportsmanship goes way beyond the game and, one practicing it far is better than thousands preaching it. Recently French tennis star Ugo Humbert was seen showing his class while checking his opponent when he survived a nasty fall after a dangerous slip-up during their QF match at the Dubai Tennis Championships on Thursday.
Ugo Humbert finally got his revenge for his third-round loss to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz at the Australian Open this year. He made a superb comeback defeating the Polish tennis star by 3-6,7-6(8),6-3 to book his place in the SF of the tournament against the defending champion, Daniil Medvedev. But more than the disappointing loss for world no.8, his stumble during the match captured the headlines.

It all happened during a rally when Hubert Hurkacz tried to return a tricky lowball to his right and close to the net. He sprinted towards the ball and couldn’t stop himself after his return went long. Hurkacz stumbled onto the bench and had a horrible fall over the top of it. It was during the second set tie-breaker which he later ended up losing it.

However, the Polish tennis player was quickly back on his feet. Ugo Humbert checked if his opponent was alright. Fortunately, Hubert Hurkacz wasn’t injured and he gave a thumbs up to the Frenchman and shook hands with him.
After this emphatic victory against a top 10 player, the 25YO said, “It was a great battle. I tried to battle for every point. In the tie-break, I saved three match points, tried to do my best and thanks to those French fans for the amazing support.”

Humbert will next face the world number 4, Daniil Medvedev. Surprisingly the Frenchman currently leads the H2H against the Russian with a 2-1 margin. Can he create yet another major upset in the tournament? Well, Ugo Humbert thinks it’s going to be a great challenge playing against Medvedev.

Andy Murray shared a similar fate in Qatar this year
During his match against Czech tennis player, Jakub Mensik in the second round of the 2024 Qatar Open Andy Murray suffered a terrible fall on the court. It happened at the beginning of the third set when Murray ran towards the net to return Mensik’s shot. Although managed to hit a passing shot which went long. But right after hitting it he unfortunately rolled his ankle and fell down on the court while trying to keep his balance.
Both Mensik and the medics ran towards the Brit to check if he was alright. Although Murray continued playing the match. But he lost the match to the number 87.

After the match during the post-match interview, the 18YO stated that he was delighted with the win. He then heaped praise on the British tennis legend and revealed how he had watched him play and win Grand Slam titles while growing up.
